APRIL 11, 2019: Information Technology (IT) Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the IT sector has witnessed commendable growth under the Narendra Modi government with 8.73 Lakh new jobs being created in the sector.
Quoting from the data provided by the IT industry body, Nasscom, the sector has created 8.73 lakh jobs in the last five years and at present employs 41.40 lakh persons. It generated 1.2 crore jobs indirectly.
As per the Nasscom report, there were 2.18 Lakh jobs created in 2014-15, 2.03 Lakh people were employed in 2015-16, 1.75 Lakh new jobs generated in the financial year 2016-17, 1.5 Lakh more people were recruited in 2017-18 and 1.72 Lakh jobs were brought into existence in 2018-19.
India’s economy is growing at 7.4 percent, national highways are being constructed, growth in manufacturing is increasing rapidly, and India’s economic growth is being recognized globally and all this are creating more and more jobs across the country, he said taking a jibe at the congress for spreading falsehood on the employment generation data, Prasad noted.
He added that growth in economic activities and building infrastructure in the last five years had resulted in creating jobs in the country and opposition is indulging in falsehoods.
“They have nothing to offer from their own side. I speak on the facts and figures, not rhetoric, not falsehoods, I am giving Nasscom data, not my personal data,” he asserted.
“You can talk on facts and figures based on our performance but not on falsehoods, and if the Congress party is so ambitious thy why haven’t they showed the data of employment generation in 10 years of their rule. When the congress party was in the government, India was a big center of impropriety and corruption, Mr Prasad added.
