Indian startups are making waves across the globe. Supporting Indian startups is a unique American programme that is giving much-needed fillip to young entrepreneurs, writes Parul Manchanda

NEW DELHI, JULY 23, 2017: “India is a world leader in startup creation. Our Nexus Incubator programme is an exciting new endeavor in the field of startups. India is America’s natural partner with tremendous energy, enthusiasm and instinct to drive innovation in entrepreneurship that is particularly exciting,” said US Chargé d’ Affaires in India Marykay Carlson at the first graduation ceremony of ‘Nexus’ incubator programme being jointly run by the University of Texas and the US State Department.

“There would be economic opportunities in India as well as America. We are very proud of this new programme and excited to see these startups to progress and grow. I am impressed by innovative ideas and determination of those being selected for the programme. We are committed to work with our Indian partners to continue to grow a dynamic, integrated, innovative ecosystem,” she added.

Nexus startup hub is a platform to provide 12 week training programme and workshops by industry experts from both the countries. Ten startups who were chosen from 110 applications from all over India have now graduated. Out of the 10 startups, six startups have been selected for further training and they include Agpulse, Escrowffer, Dhakka Brakes and Democratizing Manufacturing. Nexus represents one of the initiatives of the US Government to enhance innovation and entrepreneurship and to strengthen partnership between India and US.

“Ecosystem in India embraces collaboration and corporation. Nexus programme will provide the opportunities to both the countries to share best practices, learn from each other and collaborate. This is a mutually beneficial relationship. Vision, determination, patience, dedication and hard work are seen in these startups. Its impact has been felt by all over the country. Nexus is a best way to take all stakeholders together and create a good ecosystem in both the countries,” said Nexus Innovation Hub Director Eric Azulay.

“Our incubation programme is intense. The startup companies have determination and they need to be successful. We further expect that they should be leaders of tomorrow. We have brought the strongest players in the Indian ecosystem that will contribute to economic growth in India and the US. Next batch will start from September 2017 and this time we are expecting more applications,” he added.

According to Democratizing Manufacturing Founder Manya Jha: “With Nexus programme, we have learnt a lot and have grown significantly. Earlier our revenue was only Rs.80,000 per month but after Nexus it has increased aalmot four-fold.”

Another programme graduate Bindass Party Director Arvind said: “I was very lucky to have been selected in Nexus programme. It helped me a lot to strengthen my business. My profit has increased and my company is doing pretty well.” Arvind, whose startup makes partying easier for the people, said the Nexus programme has made him grow and do business in a more easier and simple way. “Being a part of Nexus programme is an incredible experience for me. It has given my company a headstart and now I am really doing good in my business.”
